Apple is navigating a difficult transition in the way users consume music. Users move permanent downloads for the use of radio transmission services. In 2015, for the first time there were more people who subscribe to streaming music services that permanent digital downloads. However, it is considering only Apple, three times more people prefer permanent downloads compared to the streaming service. This is leading to an internal competition between Apple services. The iTunes store is known to have exclusive content, and release albums ahead of any other platform. However, those who subscribe for $ 9.99 per month streaming service, expect to have exclusive content available for streaming iTunes too.
Apple streaming service has a much smaller user base compared to Pandora or Spotify. Apple is also competing with YouTube. Given the number of people using Apple devices, the market share of its streaming service should have been bigger. Apple catalog is huge and impressive, but sits behind a confusing interface that is a pain to navigate. Apple is being criticized for not having the same attention to detail in design software, as its hardware. Apple is planning to renovate the user interface of its streaming service, to make it easier to use and accessible. Chief Design Apple Jony Ive, Robert Kondrk iTunes content head and the leader of Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor are revamping the user interface for the Apple streaming service, according to a Bloomberg report.
