India launches free Wi-Fi services i Three Railway Stations





Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday launched free Wi-Fi at railway stations in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh Raipur and Kacheguda in Telengana through video conference here.

The service was commissioned by RailTel, a company in the public sector mini Ratna, in partnership with Google to provide high-speed Internet for travelers in these places.

"The RailTel provide energy infrastructure and fiber network, while Google will provide access network radio. Services are provided under 'Railwire' distribution model wide retail RailTel band," said a ministry statement.

The minister said the government plans to introduce the Wi-Fi service in all train stations in major country in three years.

"By this year end, free facilities Wi-Fi will be in place in 100 stations major train. We will achieve our goal of 400 stations in three years. Once in place, will be the largest Wi- system Fi public in the world, "Prabhu told reporters.

In late 2016, the railway stations in Allahabad, Bhopal, Pune, Ranchi, Ernakulum, Jaipur, Patna and Guwahati have free Wi-Fi facilities.

The Central Mumbai was the first railway station in the country with Wi-Fi installation.

Last year, Google India and Indian Railways joined forces to introduce Wi-Fi high-speed network to 400 stations in the country.
