Delhi government for all taxis,autos under PoochO application, says Transport Minister
Delhi government has decided to bring all auto rickshaws and taxis under an application that facilitates travelers to book through smart phones during a 15-day trial of the odd-even scheme from 1 January.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai said PoochO application will be launched on December 22, a day when 'Car-Free Day' on Vikas Marg is organized in Lakshmi Nagar area of East Delhi.
On Friday, Rai a meeting with representatives of city cars and taxis unions was held to deploy a plan so that people do not face problems in hiring taxis and autorickshaws from 1 January to 15.
There are about 80,000 autorickshaws and 30,000 taxis plying in the national capital. Following the launch of PoochO application, travelers can book cars and taxis that use their smartphones in the lines of the private service providers cab based on the application.
"Under PoochO application, we will launch two separate applications, one for passengers and one for the drivers. Government will implement an awareness campaign for drivers of taxis and cars registered before December 22. They can send their data on the number of mobile 9958694311 for registration, "Rai told a press conference in New Delhi.
The Minister said that the city cars and taxis will be under PoochO application that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store phone and after that, people will have to make sure your phone's GPS is on, and can find the closest car to them through maps.
In July last year, the Lt Governor Najeeb Jung had launched PoochO application that allows people to access the database of mobile numbers registered DIMTS drivers' and call them to book a trip.
The Minister said that PoochO application will only work in cars and taxis with Global Positioning System (GPS), adding that around 75 percent of which are autorickshaws GPS enabled.
"In today's meeting, we have also asked the drivers of cars and taxis to be queued in 'Halt & Go' represents what the traffic can not be disturbed on the roads," he said.
According to the minister, the government organized car-free day on Vikas Marg in Lakshmi Nagar area of East Delhi. A cycle rally was also held that day. Delhi government yesterday decided to add an additional fleet of 6,000 buses to roads of the capital to improve public transport, it will increase the frequency of subway trains and allowing more cars on the roads.
