Sundar Pichai: This is what you should know about the new CEO of Google




We saw it coming, right? A major reorganization in Google last year had put Sundar Pichai in the forefront and in charge of all products, except for YouTube which was headed by CEO Susan Wojcicki (she is the sister of Anne Wojcicki, the former wife of co-founder Sergey Brin and Page and Brin allowing start Google in your garage).

Over the years, born in India Sundar Pichai slowly but steadily it has become a forerunner in Google. After a jump start Chrome by Google's main products like Google Research, Google, Google Maps, search, ads and more, now will become the CEO of Google. During the past year, he has been on stage showing most Google products, including paying Android lately.

In a surprise move, Google announced Monday the launch of alphabet Inc as its parent company co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin CEO and president. This has paved the way for Pichai to become the next CEO of Google, which is the largest owned subsidiary of the new entity, a cut of what is now known version. The new structure, which will take shape in the coming months, was announced by Page in a blogpost and in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Google's core business include search, ads, maps, apps, YouTube and Android and all related technical infrastructure.

"Alphabet is primarily a collection of companies," Page said in office, adding: "Our model is to have a strong CEO who runs each business, with Sergey and service them when necessary."

Education and background

Pichai was born in Chennai, India, and completed his studies of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan. He later obtained a Diploma of Technology (BTech) degree of IIT- Kharagpur, and also entered an MBA from Stanford University. He also holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Before joining Google

Sundar Pichai has previously worked for McKinsey & Company in management consulting. He has also worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials.

Google and pre-crome era

Pichai joined Google in 2004 and is known to have worked in popular products such as toolbar, and also others such as Google Gears and Google Pack, before the release of Chrome. However, it was the success of the toolbar that helped Pichai pace throughout his career as Google realized that was significantly increasing the number of searchers. This eventually became Google thinks it should have its own browser.

The rebellion and Pichai Chrome

In Google, Pichai is popular for leading product management and product innovation of Google client software, such as Google Chrome and Chrome OS. Pichai is believed to be responsible for driving the Google Chrome operating system and browser forward man. In 2008, he was appointed as vice president of product development and introduced Chrome browser. It was soon followed by Chrome OS in 2009. It was after 2008 that people began to see more of Pichai in the presentations of Google and soon became a familiar face Google. By 2012, he was the senior vice president of Chrome and apps.

Appointed head of Android

While Pichai had spent nearly a decade in Google, it was only in 2013 that became a well-known figure in the world after entering into the shoes of Andy Rubin. Interestingly, Pichai joined Google in the same year that Rubin brought Google Android through acquisition. Although Rubin helped develop Android, largely for nearly a decade, Larry Page, soon felt Pichai help give new impetus.

Links with Samsung and Android One

Sundar Pichai is believed to be responsible for maintaining good relations with partners like Samsung. Also recently she launched the Android One of the initiatives in India by partnering with local manufacturers like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice.

Microsoft CEO candidate

Also it rumored to be one of the main candidates being considered for the top position in Microsoft, which later went to Indian-born Satya Nadella.

Products head

Last year, Larry Page promoted Pichai to monitor main products, including search, maps, Google +, commerce, advertising and infrastructure and more. This means the heads of these departments now report to Pichai. This puts Pichai in a very key position in Google, as the main services of the company, such as search and advertising units help generate significant portion of revenues.
