IIT and DARDO have teamed up to build aircraft engines of new generation

IIT Bombay and IIT Madras will work with the Organization of Defence Research and Development (DRDO) to carry out research and product development related to critical aerospace technologies as part of the "Make In India". The DRDO signed an agreement by which a bi-nodal "Propulsion Technology Center" (Coptic) will be established on the campus of IIT Bombay and Madras IIT.

The agreement was signed by the DRDO D-G S. Christopher, Secretary of Defense R & D, Devang Khakhar, Director, IIT Bombay and B. Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras here on Saturday morning. Ensuring the full support of the DRDO for the Coptic, Christopher said attracting talent to the country and urged it to maintain a results-oriented approach.

Khakhar called the use of investment in the field to win the leadership knowledge in these areas and motivate Gen-Next to enter this interesting area of research. Ramamurthi hailed as an opportunity to generate enthusiasm and energy for new research and provide an ideal environment where young minds could grow and contribute in this field.

Coptic mechanisms will be developed to facilitate the implementation of programs related to propulsion technology and engage both IIT and other research institutions to undertake research in advanced collaboration in the areas of critical defense technologies.

Would facilitate and conduct research in areas such as aircraft engines, futuristic hypersonic propulsion for long flights, modeling of solid fuel and morphing aeronautical technologies. Coptic further strengthen alliances with IIT DRDO and other research organizations in the country and improve interaction with academia and researchers. Coptic is expected to emerge as a center of excellence for conducting basic and applied research in aerospace propulsion technologies applied and gain recognition as one of the best in the world.
