Huawei evaluate ways to begins manufacturing of mobile phones in India






Huawei in China is evaluating ways to start the production of mobile phones in India through contract manufacturing in partnership with Foxconn and is currently studying business models and tax incentives.

A delegation of Huawei, India led by CEO Jay Chen, met Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and reported its expansion plans for the country.

Huawei is serving 40 networks around the world from its offices in India.

"

Apart from Huawei, officials of two other Chinese telecommunications companies, Le Eco and ZTE, met with the minister. In addition, global CEO of US-based Avaya, Kevin Kennedy, along with Vishal Agarwal, who is MD (India and SAARC), asked the minister.

"All these companies are in the ICT, manufacturing services and electronic communications and they are very optimistic about India. They are willing to invest and expand its footprint in India," Prasad said. "I made three clear things for them. You are welcome to do business in India, but keep in mind the sensitivities.
