First look at Micromax Canvas sliver 5: handsome and thin, but the inflated prices




Micromax announced its latest high quality device in the series of canvas - the canvas splinter. 5 - which boasts "the world's thinnest phone" label Micromax Informatics CEO Vineet Taneja spent much of his time talking about the presentation aspects of construction and design of the phone and how Micromax came to make a call metal structure that is not only thin, but also light. Build quality and design

The canvas sliver 5 is the thinnest phone ever by Micromax. In a mere 5.1 mm thick, excluding the irregularities of the camera on the back, the sliver 5 is a sure head turner. The metal with double layer coating polished aluminum frame adds a touch of class to this small phone.

The volume control buttons located on the left side and the standby button switch on the right side, both have metal construction and a good reaction. The top of the phone is clean while the base has the audio jack of 3.5 mm and Micro USB charging port.

The back is made of shiny plastic and the front has a 4.8 inch AMOLED screen. The bevels are quite thick at the top and bottom.

The Micromax Canvas sliver 5 comes with a 4.8 inch AMOLED HD screen. There is a contact layer merged with the AMOLED screen. The colors are vibrant and viewing angles are good. But Corning gorilla glass 3 has a propensity to collect stains. When the phone is in sleep mode, the screen is flush with the bezel black model.

Chipset, RAM

The phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset has a quad-core processor 1.2 GHz. This is combined with 2GB of RAM. On the front of the phone offers 16GB storage which 11.4GB is available only to the user. There is no provision to add a micro SD card

OS, Connectivity

The Micromax Canvas sliver 5 Android 5.0.2 comes with a Lollipop interface without custom look, it's a good thing. But there are some applications preloaded as a center for Apps, Chaatz, Mr. Clean, Hotstar, Quikr, Snapdragon and so on. But these can be uninstalled if desired.

The phone comes with one SIM 4G LTE connectivity. One Nanosim card is required. Apart from this you have 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS

Camera

Micromax Canvas sliver 5 comes with a rear 8-megapixel camera with a CMOS Sony IMX219 stacked. as Micromax, this helps preserve battery life. It comes with a dedicated professional manner that allows you to shoot continuous shots, change ISO, white balance adjustment and more. On the front there is a 5 megapixel camera that also has access to functions professionally. Lighting conditions in the demo stations were not really ideal for testing the camera. So you have to wait for the test portions.

Battery

Sliver 5 comes with a lithium polymer battery of 2000mAh which according Micromax offers a battery life if one days of regular use. According Micromax, the use of AMOLED screen, stacked camera sensor helps reduce energy consumption. We will have to prove this claim.

Conclusion

The Micromax Canvas sliver 5 sure looks great with slim form factor and light weight is an added plus though the metal structure. The price point of Rs 17,999 is where you face a challenge due to the low-power chipset, which usually seen in sub Rs 10,000 phones. Of course the build quality is better and has a seemingly decent camera, but considering you are getting the much larger mobile specced at a lower price these days, the way forward for the chip 5 is crowded with phones more powerful.
