The first impression of latest iphone Micromax YU Yuphoria

Unlike Yureka, the smartphone is not a phablet Yuphoria and has a 5-inch screen optimized for hand use. It's interesting how handset makers are turning to compact and phablet revolution seems to be going out of fashion.

The highlight of the phone is its metal structure that curved around and has rounded corners. There are two smaller bands at the top and the bottom of the phone that have the 3.5mm headphone jack and micro-USB port, and also act as the antenna. The right edge has three metal buttons - a power key sandwiched between the keys elongated volume rocker. The buttons are easily accessible, offers good tactile response and are fairly sensitive. We have seen this available on BlackBerry phones with the mute key / Wizard placed between the volume buttons.

The back of the phone has a removable plastic panel that fits perfectly with the frame. We have seen this pattern before in some phones including Nokia Lumia Lumia 925 and 830.

Plate rear panel hides a removable battery, two micro sim-card and a microSD card slot grooves. At the rear, you also see a ring around the camera lens. It also incorporates an LED flash.

There is some branding YU in the back and the front of the phone Yuphoria.

Overall, we felt the YU Yuphoria is a very well built phone for its price and exudes a sense of quality.

The front is dominated by a 5-inch HD IPS (720x1280p) and is one of the few phones in this range feature three Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The screen is sharp thanks to the high density of pixels although we noticed some changes color to change the horizontal viewing angles. We found the screen is reflective and this affects sunlight readability and brightness levels are also a little low. Touch response was pretty good.

YU Yuphoria is powered by a 1.2 GHz 64-bit chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of DDR3 RAM. The phone has 16 GB of internal storage expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card.

YU Yuphoria has a rear 8MP camera (F2.2 aperture, capable of 1080p video capture) with LED flash and a front camera of 5 megapixels (f2.0) with wide angle lens 86 degrees. In the short time with the phone, we did not observe any shutter lag and found the camera takes decent pictures even in low light. Let's take a detailed look at the camera in our full review.

It runs OS cyanogen 12, an aftermarket custom version of Android 5.0 Lollipop developed by cyanogen. Cyanogen is known for its customization, better performance and additional features. The look and feel is very close to stock Android except for some interface elements, although customization is possible through the issues.

OS 12 has a cyanogen cyanogen Email App Themer, fed Boxer and integration TrueCaller marker. In our brief use we did not encounter any stuttering or LAG and found the user interface to be very smooth.

In terms of connectivity, the phone supports dual SIM 3G, 4G (CAT 4, including TDD-LTE, 4G Indian bands), Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. It comes with a high density of fast charge battery 2230mAh, which the company says delivers 160 hours of standby time and you can get a 60% charge in 45 minutes.

At Rs 6999, YU Yuphoria rivals Lenovo A6000 Plus it costs 500 rupees and is a thick device. Xiaomi also compete with lower looks Redmi 2 specifications and sold at the same price. We'll have a detailed review of the phone soon to know if the Yuphoria has the potential to become the undisputed leader in the budget segment.
