Twitter,Youtube, Facebook, blocked in Turkey




The Turkish government apparently blocked the social networking sites Facebook, Twitter and YouTube briefly in response to an attempted military coup, according to a media report.

Turkey Blocks, a Twitter account regularly checking if the sites were being blocked in the country, informed 23:04 that Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were insensitive, TechCrunch reported. Access was restored after about an hour and a half, according to research agency Research Dyn.

A chaotic night began Friday night with reports of soldiers trying to take control of bridges and key areas in major cities. Later, army helicopters began air strikes and shelled key locations in the capital, Ankara. So far, 754 have been arrested in the attempted coup

Twitter policy team, however, said he did not believe the site was completely blocked in Turkey. "We suspect that there is an intentional decrease in traffic in our country," he said in a statement on Twitter.
